If you have an idea you would really like your own fresh free range eggs why not come to one of our Chicken Keeping Workshops in the Spring! You will not only be entertained by some great little characters owning your own hens but also starting a fantastic rewarding new project which will not only keep you in eggs but also give you a brand new interest. Children love to collect eggs from nest boxes too.

DECISION TIME??? To help you decide if hens are for you and your family or if you would like to experience Chicken Keeping live before making a decision we run Hands-on Chicken Keeping Workshops. The courses run regularly in the spring. Other mini courses are run by appointment. You are more than welcome to bring a picnic and your own drinks. When you go home you will take hints and tips to help you with your new project. They from will run from 10.30 am till 12.30 or 2.30pm to 4.30. Please phone or text for more information. Special occasions or specific dates can be arranged by phone or text. Supervised children welcome from any age. Texts or a phone call will get a quicker response.
The courses can also be arranged for small groups of 6 to 10 people aimed at families and clubs. Please phone for details as prices will be calculated on requirements.
In addition to an informal but informative morning or afternoon you will receive written hints and tips to take home for future reference.
What to expect from our workshops: During your session you will receive expert tuition on the following topics:
*Housing Options - The Pros and Cons
*Housekeeping - Cleaning and preening
*Choosing your flock - Pure Bred vs Hybrid Hens
*Feeding and Watering
*Minor Ailments and treatment
*Health and Safety - for both chicken and keeper
*Meet our Free Range hens plus handling demonstration
*Egg colours, shapes, sizes and a unique way to check for freshness
The workshop takes place both inside our barn and out, therefore on cooler or wet days, you will need to bring warm, waterproof clothing and outdoor shoes or wellies. Please also bear in mind that you can handle live chicken (although not obligatory) so long sleeves are advisable and attire that you don't mind if it gets mucky.
We also offer a 'Hen B & B' service - bring your hens for their own holiday while you enjoy a break. £10 per night per group of hens.

BY POPULAR REQUEST WE ARE NOW RUNNING 2HR COURSES from 10.30am until 12.30pm. Alternatively we can also do 2.30PM until 4.30pm. Please contact us for more information. Please phone if you would like to book or discuss mutually convenient days & times. Workshop costs £40 per adult and £10 for children (who are most welcome) Under 5's FOC. Some parents are using the course as part of their home schooling programme. In addition to which families are arriving with their own picnics and drinks!
